The Isle of Kalidore:
Geography of the Forgotten Isles

"...The world was born, they say, when a pebble caught in Kal's hoof and she shook it free. Away it went spinning across the sky, growing until it was the size of a small moon. Delighted, Kala raced along side, making it spin faster and faster as it continued to grow. When at last she was tired, the world was big enough for her feet to rest upon the ground. She gazed across the vast escape and was pleased with what she saw. She breathed over the earth, the first breath, the life-wind, and it blew through the lands to the furthest corners of the globe. Everything it touched sprang to life, bloomed thick and lush, sweet and green. Kala, mother of all, settled into the warm green grass to sleep and dream of life to come..."

Welcome! Here you will find the long-forgotten maps of Kalidore, your guide to the mist-shrouded isles that make up their world. This page is still under construction, but feel free to look around... who knows what you might discover?

Known Lands ~
The Unicorns have called Kalidore their home since time immemorable. Some say it was the first world Kala made, others say it was simply her favorite. Regardless, it was the world which she and Kaëdon gifted to their children, a lush and beautiful world which they could call their own. A scattering of isles, like rough emeralds in the sea, make up Kalidore's principle land mass with its largest island being named in same; this is where our tales take place, where the Stallions govern over their domain and where Mares bring their new foals into the world. The Isle of Kalidore is a haven for all.

More details and information will be added to the map as it is uncovered.

The Skylands ~ It is said that when young Kaëdon first galloped across the land, his hooves dug into the earth causing mountains to rise. The vast mountain range to the North is a wild, untouched land, appearing sparse and lonely to the untrained eye. Yet to one who cares to look you will discover and quiet paradise - strange and exotic shrubs cling to the rock, painting the hillsides with incredible colour in the spring; birds of every name and description fill the air with song. This is where Odin makes his home, and his domain is a peaceful one; there is simply something about the mountains that make a person pause and consider the world around them. This is an old land after all, rich with myth and hidden secrets; who know what one might find exploring?

Shores of the Tyressline ~ The Sea of Tyressline is Kalidore's great ocean; she is generally a temperate beast, and the creatures who live along her shores rely on her pleasant moods for their livelihood. That's not to say living by the shore is an easy life; the sea has her moods after all, and fierce storms have been known to scour the land. Yet for the most part life along the Tyressline is an idealistic one, and this is where Arieon chooses as his domain, dancing along the waves and feasting on the lush grass and salty herbs that cluster around the shore. Here too, is where the great river meets the sea, and in these brackish waters teem hundreds of kinds of fish and animals found only in this small corner of Kalidore.

StarFalls ~ Of all of Kalidore's natural wonders, few are talked about as much as the StarFalls. Above it is the Lake of Dreams, fed fresh and full by mountain springs. Mirror-smooth, at night the surface is alive with stars, and as the brim over flows - down the stars go, splashing and laughing across the swirling waters! Both beautiful and powerful, the StarFalls is to be admired, but it must also be heeded with caution, or else find one's self swept away with only the reflection of stars to hang on to! There are also old tales of secrets carefully guarded by the falls, but those might just be memories. After all, the river is in a state of constant flux, recreating and redrawing itself in motion, and connecting the land to the sea.

Kaledon Forest ~ There are forests you read about in fairy tales where the trees are huge and ancient, where dappled sunlight finds delicate flowers hidden on the forest's floor, where the air is alive with dancing motes and brilliant butterflies go whisper through the leaves. It's the kind of forest where magic is strong, and if there was one place you could find mythical creatures, it would be here. Kaledon is just that kind of forest. Bustling with the many creatures that call it home, it's a wonder such a place can seem so still! But just sit quietly for a little while, and the forest will come alive before your eyes. There is so much to see and discover, a journey into Kaledon is bound to be an adventure!

The Great Plains ~ Like a rolling sea the grass billows and blows, the playful wind causing the swells to ebb and flow like waves. No wonder the grasslands are often referred to as "Kalidore's Sea". Wide and beckoning, huge open spaces that charge the imagination all the way to a seamless horizon. It is on these Great Plains that Falling Star roams, chasing the wind and setting the grass a-stir beneath his hooves.

Singing Sands ~ When the wind blows across the dunes, it makes a sound, like tiny bells. It was for this wistful melody that the Singing Sands was named, the most desolate place in all of Kalidore. But do not let it's harsh exterior put you off, for even in the desert the magic of life flows deep and strong; here you can find some of the rarest plants and creatures on the isle, the strangest beauty. And when the rain falls - and it does, each season like clockworks - at once the shy desert bursts into carefree celebration! There are few sights as glorious in all the isle as a the blooming dessert, stirring with life and ringing with song.

Muse Lake ~ A shining jewel at the edge of the Singing Sands, Muse Lake is a sacred place. It is said that when Kala awoke after creating the world, she was thirsty, but there was nothing to drink. So she pierced the earth with her horn and a spring rushed to life. That was how the lake was born, and it's not surprising many believe it holds certain healing properties. It is here where Kalidore's own resident Muse takes up residences, offering guidance to travelers and providing answers to those who seek. She is a helpful character who assists both Unicorns and their Companions; not sure what to name your new foal? Ask the Muse! Need some insight into foal possibilities or breeding suggestion? Ask the Muse! She's sure to have the answers :)

Kala's Peace When the world was done, they say, at last Kal lay down to rest, and where she did a thousands of tiny flowers sprung up all around her and the tees grew like protective arms to watch over her while she slept. That place is called Kala's Peace, and it remains a Safe Haven for all the creatures of Kalidore. This is were unwanted Unicorns or ones who have lost their Companions may stay until they are re-homed, where wild Unicorns linger, preferring to remain untamed and free. Every now and then there is a special event - a Pony Penning Day of sorts! - is held for prospective Companions to try and tempt one of these Unicorn to be their own; can you? More information about these events will be posted closer to the time.
